Morning!
They just announced at least another month of lockdown here (Bay Area, CA).
"shelter-in-place"
Looks like it's going to be 6 months here, that's the hints coming from the government
We got takeout this weekend. Six main dishes from my favorite Indian place yesterday, and a full Southern comfort cooking dinner tonight from a high end place down the road. First time we've done takeout. Two weeks into the lockdown. We tipped both places 100% as a way to support them in these difficult times.
I feel so bad for all the service workers who've been laid off 😞
Yeah, small businesses are taking the brunt. The government here has introduced measures to help, but with all things, it has caveats.
I know a few people (not working in computing) who have been laid off (permanently!) already.
Yeah, one of our best friends told us both her husband and her daughter have been laid off 😞
We're so very fortunate to be in an industry where we can work from home and business can continue online.
I should go to bed. Beer's empty, and I need to be up in ten hours to call mum back in England...
Sure, another day of working from home awaits (and loadbalancing my kid with my wife)

morning
Morning.
@rhinocratic just stay away from glulam, chipboard and hardwoods - confine yourself to softwood furniture and you'll be fine
There's a nice pine coffee table to start on.
Also, this was a really bad time to resign from my job. 😬
It's a very odd time to have left mine. I think it'll be weird that on Monday I just connect somewhere else instead.
My last 2 roles have been almost entirely remote, and switching was an odd experience - everything changed, yet stayed the same.
Indeed. The place is freezing in winter. 😐
morning
where are you working next, @dominicm ?
Next week I'll be starting at http://commsor.com
someone on twitter wrote that she buys herself a completely unnecessary weird thing at the start of every job
Yeah they are :) don't think I could leave clojure yet.
Always fancied a Theremin. Maybe I'll indulge myself if I land another job.:face_with_rolling_eyes:
I can highly recommend owning a theremin, but they're not easy to play well. (at least I was never very good at it!)
Interesting. I actually did have plans to get a new desk and such... But corona has hindered those plans.
One thing I misa after starting remote (almost 4 years now) is the occasional drink and activities. I did take up such an arrangement with some guys I met at a co-working office, but then they moved. Really missing going out for beers after a busy day at work
Virtual booze-ups via Hangouts just aren't the same.
Quite so. Why does potpourri always smell of something like vanilla, lavender or patchouli? There must be a market for one that smells of "old git's watering hole".
I miss my shared office
I’m still forking out for it in the hope that we’ll be back in it in May, but…
