https://clojurians.slack.com/archives/C06MAR553/p1676373504978239 wondering if it is bad etiquette to post my own package in an announcement thread. Fine because it is related but a different use case?
I am trying to remember the quote but forgot who said it. But he (a famous entrepreneur, someone like Peter Thiel) said that hiring Python developer is good because the developers who cared enough to learn minor technology (Python used to be a minor programming language) tend to be good or something along those lines π Does anyone know the quote and can find it please? It could be helpful in defending minor languages in a company
Sounds like maybe Paul Graham, from one of his http://www.paulgraham.com/lisp.html? Certainly sounds familiar. & I expect other people have made that same point.
Hmm actually the original point was why they should hire Python devs instead of something like Java, not really LISP, Clojure related, but thanks for another pointer!
Just grepped for 'python' in the few of those I would have expected it to be in, and not seeing it, so that's probably a blind alley.
http://www.paulgraham.com/pypar.html It probably was this quote I was looking for
Ah, bingo! So I was on the right track but thinking of the wrong essays. Glad you found it π
Thanks! I was able to find thanks to your pointer to Paul Graham!
Given the quote is from 2004, I think it's rather unfair on Java. Today is a different story (for both Java and Python).
how do you think it is unfair to Java? @U03B2SRNYTY
@U354VUKQA In the early 2000s, Java was "recently established kid on the block" having cut its teeth in the 90s. It would have been fairer to levy that critique against the C++ gang at the time. Now in the 2020s it is completely fair against Java.
