Life satisfaction and economic sentiment?

The effect size is… pretty small, even if the correlation is robust according to their methods. I seriously doubt any relationship would hold up if making cross-country comparisons. And saying the “purpose” of RTW is to “improve unions” is being more than a little generous to the political aims of those interested in instituting them.

"these improvements are concentrated among union workers" ie, RTW does not benefit anyone who exercises the right. It benefits those in the unions. "these improvements in well-being are consistent with an increase in competition among unions, which prompts them to provide higher quality services that are valued by their members." Bingo.

That sounds like "bad labor laws force unions to work harder" which seems like a strange take on justifying bad labor laws in the first place 😞

I don’t know much about the labor laws in the US (or the UK really for that matter). I do understand of course that at a high-level that the intent of the laws (even if not always stated by their advocates) are to strangle the funding of unions so that they cannot represent their members effectively. As an aside, it is always interesting to see how many software developers are advocates of unions vs how many I’ve met who are actually in one (though I’ve never worked in the public sector so maybe that’s why).

I'm not in a union b/c I'm an evil capitalist boss

I am a member of a labor union, but as a tech worker for a non-profit rather than a traditional software company
