Anyone have a solid, up-to-date site/book on docker/docker compose that conveys information well for someone starting from fairly little knowledge of docker beyond the very basics?
I've been following it and am always surprised by a pretty comprehensive tutorial in the official documentaiton, learning a lot so far. Some things I had to discover outside (configuring to use 0.0.0.0 as host instead of 127.0.0.1 for example. But in general I'm learning a lot from it so far.
I've found this useful: https://courses.nickjanetakis.com/courses/take/dive-into-docker
And a bit related but specific to AWS: https://www.udemy.com/scaling-docker-on-aws
https://www.facebook.com/ProgrammersCreateLife/photos/a.241809332534619/2281489868566545
you can't even read it without an fb account anymore? I thought they used to let you do that.
While Russia.leader = "Putin":
EasternEurope.peace = false
Russia.leader.remove()
Bloody mutable amateurs)))It's only implemented to look likes it implemented the rules of democracy, but he's still there.
spin lock, brr
Oh ya, everyone still programs in English
While Russia.leader = "Putin":
EasternEurope.peace = false
Russia.leader.remove()
Bloody mutable amateurs)))I'd like to disagree here. While I agree on staying civilized I think it's important to raise awareness for people that are suppressed by their government or something else, especially if its related to programming and in off-topic.
Raising awareness is fine. It's the follow up discussion that tends to be when things go off the rails... My comment was just a caution to keep things civilized and remind folks that this is a global, professional "venue" governed by a Code of Conduct.
I mean, the following thread was super peaceful: https://clojurians.slack.com/archives/C03RZGPG3/p1561575682033500 and even jokingly. Farer away from going off the rails than any topic about emacs. And saying: > Probably best to keep politics out of the Clojurians Slack folks is something different than telling people to keep caution and things civilized. I get where you're coming from knowing that political topics often get heated rather sooner than later I'd wish for a slightly more laid back warning, especially when nothing went off so far.
for those owning a >= 2016 Mac, any advice regarding USB-C adapters? I've looked around but it seems a lot of those hubs have trouble with mini displayport, or limited DisplayPort/HDMI (30Hz, I assume that's noticeable compared to 60Hz). I'm inclined to buy a separate cable for my FullHD monitor (DP -> USB-C) and some separate USB->USB-C adapters...
also a lot of those USB-C things don't support charging a Macbook because of a limit up to 50 or 60 watts passthrough
- I use a cable, not adaptor, Type-C to HDMI and I think the same is for DP/Mini-DP, but one issue I encountered is upon closing the lid when the laptop is connected to external display laptop doesn’t turn off the extended display mode. In < 2016 it used to automatically detect closed lid and turn to single display mode. - As 15 inch version has 4 ports I don’t see a reason to charge it through an adapter.
As usb hub I’m using this one - https://www.amazon.com/Grborn-VENTION-Gigabit-Ethernet-Converter/dp/B07SZ176DH/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Vention+USB+Adapter+type-c&qid=1561641889&s=gateway&sr=8-2
If you are looking for a hub, here is one that I use (and found to be quite good): https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B078J7FSWM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It only supports 1 HDMI 2.0 out though, so that kinda sucks.
Maybe look for something in the same brand, I have 2 of these pluggable thigns and htey both work prefectly, and they seem cheaper than the alternatives, which are mega expensive
@slack1224 thanks. the specs say HDMI @ 30Hz. Don't you notice the difference with 60Hz?
and tbh i dont know people say they see in 120hz or something, and I have a 120hz ipad, and I see zero difference
my eyes were on this device: https://satechi.net/blogs/news/satechi-introduces-aluminum-type-c-multimedia-adapter but it says: mini DP 4k @ 30Hz. but it doesn't specify if it can run full hd on 60hz 😕
seriously my old work place had like thos 1 wire everything set up and now im so pampered
@sogaiu well, supposedly you can't charge your macbook pro because it only goes up to 50 watts. and I wonder how well the displayport works, at 60hz for fullhd?
@borkdude Get this item: Monoprice Consul Series USB-C HDMI Adapter with Gigabit Ethernet, 3-Port USB 3.0, SD/MicroSD Reader, USB-C 100W PD 3
Using it on a new MacBook Pro for work. It can charge, plus has multiple HDMI ports + usb, even ethernet: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=35509
I'm running 4 monitors (3x4K, 1xHD).
30Hz is noticeable, but tolerable. Emacs/terminal usage is identical, but as soon as you move the mouse or scroll a page you'll miss the smoothness. I'd say the main issue is having those side by side, reminding you of the difference everyday... (But I'd rather have low fps than low pixel density, for example.)
Not for software editing (I don't do gaming). IntelliJ, Vim, Chrome, terminal all look awesome on the 3 4K displays (my favorite: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1325220-REG/lg_43ud79_b_uhd_monitor_43_4k.html).
Note that I use 3 of the USB-C ports for the three 4K monitors. I use the 4'th USB-C port for the adapter, which then serves the last monitor (HD), plus my USB accessories, and the charging cable.
I'd like to disagree here. While I agree on staying civilized I think it's important to raise awareness for people that are suppressed by their government or something else, especially if its related to programming and in off-topic.
