Goedemorgen mensen van voor de dageraad

borkdude08:11:36

Mogguh Is dit de nieuwe #C050VDRHW ?

thomas09:11:57

Goede morgen!

thomas09:11:09

yeah, let's take over the continent.

reefersleep09:11:00

I could think of much worse overlords

☝️ 2
thomas09:11:06

With great power comes corruption quickly IMHO.

reefersleep11:11:26

Yes, the overlords I’m thinking of are, in contrast to the Netherlands, already in an overlord-like position. Everyone has the potential to be like them 🙂

simongray09:11:02

good morning

otfrom09:11:50

You ask people in Europe where they are from and it immediately descends into imperialism. :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

lemontea16:11:18

well that escalated quickly 😱🙈

seancorfield21:11:11

And "where are you from?" can mean "where do you live?" or "where do your family lines originate?" -- in the USA, it nearly always gets answered as the latter question 🙂 Hence I used the 🇬🇧 emoji above but I live in California 🙂

otfrom21:11:54

With the added problem of "but where are you really from" if you don't look or sound like people expect

seancorfield21:11:23

Yes, and that is certainly problematic...

borkdude10:11:50

Recently there was a show on Dutch television in which someone went to Norway to ask if 3 million Dutch people could migrate there if the sea rises too heavily. It even made it to Norse television. I think we better invest in good relations with other countries 😨

robert-stuttaford10:11:38

or learn to swim?

borkdude10:11:15

That's one thing Dutch do well: teach kids to swim at a young age. At least in my day, don't know currently ;)

borkdude10:11:32

But you can only keep swimming for so long. Apeldoorn is quite safe though

robert-stuttaford10:11:56

yep my kids are certainly doing that

emilaasa10:11:39

Article is a year old but the project number of jobs has only gone up afaik. I guess polar night is better than being under water. 🙂

reefersleep11:11:15

I’m assuming the Norwegians said “yeah, sure!”

borkdude11:11:54

Most of them did :)

reefersleep11:11:03

Velkomman allihop!

reefersleep11:11:33

Are the Netherlands generally close to sea level? I think that if you guys are screwed, so are we. We’re pretty flat.

borkdude11:11:32

flat isn't a problem as long as the flatness starts at the right height

otfrom11:11:56

that's only thinking about the water tho, not about the heat

borkdude11:11:31

more heat, more evaporation... hehe

reefersleep11:11:16

Well, we can’t be entirely flat. We’ve got loads of beaches where dry land and ocean meet. That implies some height difference to sea level 😄

borkdude11:11:16

A huge portion of NL is below sea level

😓 1
😬 2
borkdude12:11:17

especially Gouda Thomas ;)

slipset12:11:05

@U04V15CAJ if you give up this altruistic idea of yours of only working OSS, we could even give you a job ASAP ZULU!

😮 1
borkdude12:11:35

You mean like ... a proper job? 😍

thomas12:11:16

I ive well below sea leavel.

slipset13:11:16

Yes a proper job 🙂

slipset13:11:38

Located nicely above sea level.

Dimitar Uzunov13:11:50

Come to BG we are above sea level for sure

Dimitar Uzunov13:11:06

plus our population is rapidly shrinking anyway

gklijs17:11:14

Thats one of the reasons we plan to move from the west to the east of the Netherlands.

👍 1
borkdude17:11:10

@U26FJ5FDM any concrete plans yet?

gklijs19:11:24

Yes, very concrete. We signed for a newly build house, should be done somewhere in 2024. Part of the project is appartements through, and they have a hard time selling them. So looks like it could be some more months before they start building.

borkdude19:11:20

Which city?

borkdude19:11:08

nice. and you came from Gouda?

gklijs19:11:27

No, Papendrecht currently.

borkdude19:11:07

will you change jobs because of this?

gklijs19:11:37

Nope I could work anywhere with an internet connection with my current work. Travel to office actually improves through, instead of the bus, I can go with the intercity train.

borkdude19:11:15

nice. you worked in Nieuwegein right?

gklijs19:11:57

Well the company I used to work has it's office there. It's AxonIQ for about half a year now. Which has an 'office' on Utrecht city centre. But only on Tuesdays there are more than a few people.

gklijs19:11:17

No Clojure, but pretty nice working for a product company. Large portion of the work is on open source.

gklijs12:11:49

There is actually some Clojure, as part of trying to test Axon Server.

lread12:11:09

Good morning!
