Hello everyone. I'm Ryan. I've been doing Rails stuff since before public release (I was at Basecamp for 18 years). I've admired Rich Hickey's thinking and Clojure from afar since Simple Made Easy. I'm still on the Rails stack for personal projects. In the MVC of Rails, it's easy to be functional in spirit in the views and controllers. And I much prefer Hotwire and Stimulus over single-page JS frameworks. But I'm getting frustrated with ActiveRecord. I can get things running very fast, but too much code and state is tangled together in the models. Testing is especially hard. So I'm trying to make my way toward, if not Clojure, then at least a more data-oriented style for the new product I'm working on.

Welcome Ryan. Such a pleasant surprise to see you here. I have always admired what you guys have done at basecamp and your product development methodology shapeup. See you around.

@U02RTT8E2H0 I'd just like to give a shout out to a perhaps niche and overlooked contribution you made (among all the other work you've been doing). I really enjoyed the PeepCode interview with Geoffrey Grossenbach on how to think about and sketch UIs. It really resonated with me at the time and I've used a lot of the insights you shared in pushing many projects forward. Just wanted to say thanks! :spock-hand:
