I worked at a company that provisioned hardware and had automated network diagnostics through excel

those guys would have loved to be able to use a proper programming language (they were clearly capable of using it)

The other aspect worth noting is which other runtime environment could you guarantee would be on every machine in the office

pleaaaase don’t declare excel as the ONLY universal runtime, we’re getting too romantic now
