Morning.
Morning π
madainn mhath :flag-scotland: Back to the daily round after a bout with a nasty microbe... Did I miss anything..? Apparently TayTay's boyf has won the Superbowl..?
I think you know what I am referring to, but in the spirit of unambiguous discourse... TayTay == Taylor Swift, American chanteuse, song-writer, entrepreneur and all around celebrity of note. Superbowl == The American (Gridiron) Football national championship match between the winners of the NFC and AFC
National Football Conference and American Football Conference. They are the two halves of the NFL, each containing 16 teams, going to make up the 32 teams of the NFL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League
aahhh.. learned something new today... so is it a east/west (coast) things? (which I think the NBA has)
Kinda... The New York Giants are in the NFC, the New York Jets are in the AFC - it's not just East / West
I think that it's a holdover from two rival Leagues, the emerging NFL and the AFL (American Football League) merging in the 50s or 60s but my memory on that is a little flakey... I think that the Wikipedia article goes into some detail on it.
Sportsball! π My wife & I watched it -- she's a huge (American) football fan and after 24+ years together I've pieced together a very basic understanding of the game... As Superb Owl games go, it was rather good... quite the nailbiter... Living in the Bay Area, I would have preferred the 49ers to win of course π
I would have loved to have the energy to stay up and watch, well that and the spare bandwidth - it would have killed my Satellite bandwidth cap!
I was shocked by just how much pre-game content there was: five and a half hours of it! We watched about the last 90 minutes of that, then the game itself with the short Usher concert in the middle of it π
A joke going around here: I hear TayTay's b/f is playing at an Usher concert? π
I must admit I was rootin' for The Chiefs, but not because of TS and Kelce, but more because they have been to 3 out of the last 4 Superb Owls and were up to equal the Patriots back to back wins feat and it just felt right to me that they should take it. I was an avid fan back in the late 80s / early 90s and followed the Dolphins and then the Steelers, but these days I just like to dip my toe in, particularly the Superb Owl.
I don't understand it at all. I do understand football/soccer but don't follow that either.
It's not for everyone @U052852ES but fear not, I am not in any way judging.
My interest is passing and fleeting. I enjoy the spectacle but don't follow sport avidly.
I think that there is a large grey area between keen interest and obsession and that area is defined very subjectively. I tend to veer away from judging anyone as obsessed unless they exhibit transitive characteristics, such as being unable to hold down a job due to fixation on something, or even possibly the inability to discuss anything else other than the subject that they are keen on.
I am sure that there are people who would describe me as obsessed by photography, but I would say that I have a keen interest.
What I've learned from my wife is that it is a much more strategic game that it looks to outsiders, and a much more complicated game than most people imagine...
