I discovered an application today, in our raft of deployments that wasn’t commiting open sessions to a database. It has 43 million rows to commit….

(this is a python application - not picking on a language, simply saying I didn’t write it 🙂 )

and that number is growing by 25 a second

it's been running for 4 weeks

It is, it's been waiting for a POST to an endpoint to commit

That's a POST to an endpoint that has nothing to do with why the 43+ million rows are being created

basically, someone put some code in that did an audit of HTTP requests and saved that to a db.

and it would only commit when a POST happened

unforutnately, there is an endpoint, a GET endpoint that is being hammered at least 25 times a second that is also being audited.

so until someone invokes the POST (to do something else, not related to the GET "entity"), the overall session won't commit.

It is a nice monitor, though. I got it for £750 because of Black Friday

I have a 32" 4k samsung that was 300 odd about 18 months ago

and in my shared office a 160 quid 28" 4k screen which isn't as good but is at least damn cheap like
