Is there an easy way to search the archives? Or will I have to kind of pull them into my filesystem and grep
There is some bot running that is archiving them

Some, but not all, Slack channels are being auto-copied in Clojurians Zulip chat, which provides searches over the entire history, with no expiration of old messages as occurs on Slack: http://clojurians.zulipchat.com Look in the #slack-archive channel there.
