Until recently I was using dell computers, cause they do support ubuntu (https://www.dell.com/en-uk/work/shop/laptops/sr/laptops/ubuntu?appliedRefinements=7692)

Last year tried a Lenovo X1 carbon, been fine however it's not been 100% worry-free, ACPI issues and Thunderbolt support made me use latest mainline kernels on 18.04

overall I'd recommend something that "officially" supports ubuntu

or whatever distro

I'm using an xps13 now, the performance has been disappointing.

two likely contributors to slowdown: intel spectre and meltdown fixes, gnome on 18.04 has been rather flaky recently, randomly freezing, memory leaking, had to disable gsconnect recently

x1 extreme is also extreme in the size of its power adapter, don't drop it on your foot!

There is a "brick" option you can get when purchasing, or you can choose another version with a lower wattage. So, all up to you really 🙂

I've not noticed the lack of usb c, there is a whole glut of adapters available

oh so you can use say a 90w usb c adapter too on your x1 extreme?

I do, I even use a 65w one

Dell XPS Developer edition with Ubuntu straight from the factory (they definitely still sell it but you'll have to explore the Dell site to find it, the page Google has indexed is out of date)

The x1 extreme processor is 25% faster than my current one, but it has an actual graphics card which will give me a nice boost.

when my macbook spat the dummy the other month I did 6 weeks full time on my 2015 lenovo thinkpad carbon

with 8GB more ram (it only has 8GB) it would be fine

and that’s running backend repl, api repl, node/shadow build, kafka and cassandra plus misc tools & chrome open for dev - was basically fine, so I’m sure the current ones are even better

We finished the series last night. Loved it. I quite liked the timeline element of it. It wasn't obvious at the start either
