good morning!
Godmorgen 🙂
Morning!
You know that feeling when you ride for 45 minutes on your bike through strong headwind to get to work, finally manage to sit down at your desk and discover that they forgot to put cheese on that nice—yet somewhat expensive— takeaway breakfast you bought on the way to treat yourself? That’s the feeling I have now
Biking in the headwind was one of the most draining thing (physically/mentally) I did while in CPH
No way! (I will definitely get one when we move to the eternally windy Ørestad, though)
I mentioned recently my project with Spotify, Raspberry PI and NFC cards. I managed to grab a short video…
really cool shit, @U7PBP4UVA. I want one. What’s the hardware recipe? A raspberry Pi + an NFC reader?
Yes! The tags contain just a Spotify ID pointing to the album. I found the album art online.
The raspberry pi is running moode audio that acts also as a Spotify connect client, and outputs audio via the HDMI
AFAIK it’s digital audio which bypasses the noisy Pi DAC - not that I could hear a difference between this and and headphone jack :)
e.g. https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/web-api/guides/using-connect-web-api/
At some point they even had an api that actually gave you access to the samples. Those were the days.
Original product owner of Spotify Connect here. 👋 This makes me so happy to see that I almost want to cry!
I once visited Bang & Olufsen's quite top-secret lab where they experimented with things not too far from this thing, @U7PBP4UVA. 😃 The NDA has probably expired, but I dare not detail this more anyway.
Heh, whoever has seen this in action wants me to make it commercial… but the album art is copyrighted and I think it’s quite the niche application anyway.
I think it would sell like crazy. Maybe some jukebox kinda UI? Or a wall jukebox. Like a clock with X slots, a very tangible playlist editor. It will advance at each song end, and you can spin it for a random song. 😃
I can put you in contact with a guy I used to work with at Spotify who might be able to reason a bit around the copyright issue. At least I think he's still working there.
Or make it CD size, so that people can use CD covers. And they can also just print stuff themselves. 😃
Heh, I don't think that the DJs will be happy to cede their position as mood makers. I've never been in bar that had a Jukebox, I think with today's breadth of music tastes, it's a bit impossible to please everyone even within the same niche. But for the home it allows me to build my own "collection" but I do have to print the stuff myself 😉
Well, I was certainly having the home in mind. I owned “Spotify in the home”, so that’s were I’m tuned. 😀
