are you restoring the same database? is any version of the database already present on the storage to which you are restoring?

robert-stuttaford06:11:16

how many skipped vs new segments do you see in each?

genRaiy14:11:11

FWIW I made a buildpack for Datomic on Heroku … and blogged about it here: http://blog.opengrail.com/jekyll/update/2015/11/19/datomic-heroku-spaces.html

genRaiy14:11:22

I would welcome feedback

bostonaholic15:11:40

@raymcdermott: I am excited to read that. thanks!

genRaiy15:11:22

@bostonaholic: the Private Spaces feature is not widely available yet but once it’s out there it will make it easier for people to get started with Datomic proper than EC2 - at least IMHO. Of course it will cost more too 😉

Alex Miller (Clojure team)15:11:41

@raymcdermott: fyi, in your post you have "from Rich Hickey and the other guys at Cognitect" but there are women on the Datomic team as well and it would be polite to remove that gendered word there

genRaiy15:11:00

oh shit yes, I will change to folks

sdegutis20:11:18

When is it useful to have the collection of Datoms produced by a transaction?

danielcompton20:11:56

@raymcdermott: I talked to a Heroku account manager who indicated we needed to spend >$1000 / month to get onto Enterprise

danielcompton20:11:06

Is that roughly accurate for your spend?

genRaiy20:11:13

@danielcompton: yes, the corporation where I consult has many apps on their PAAS. I did not know the bar was that high however. I will check with some other sources to verify. I will need to update the post if that is the case since that is a pretty heavy ‘ceremony’ 😉

danielcompton20:11:50

@raymcdermott: What I heard from them was that they really wanted you on Heroku Enterprise which is an annual agreement. They would maybe make an exception for standard customers paying $1000/month.

genRaiy21:11:58

@danielcompton: the client has an annual contract so yes, that makes sense. Most large companies favour an invoice rather than a credit card bill and Amazon has a similar policy in fairness. But I should be a little clearer on the barriers to entry. I hope it didn’t waste your time.

danielcompton21:11:17

no, not at all, it was very interesting

danielcompton21:11:25

just not quite relevant for us yet simple_smile

danielcompton21:11:44

I talked to the Heroku person a few months ago, not in relation to your post

genRaiy21:11:31

there are other options for exposing IP addresses in interesting ways using some Heroku addons to obtain a similar result

genRaiy21:11:20

give me 2 mins and I’ll post the addon info

genRaiy21:11:51

one is Proximo and the other is Fixie … they work by setting up static IP addresses that you could use for the transactor. I didn’t go there because I couldn’t recommend off-piste services for core aspects of the system to a large corporate. You might find it interesting to explore but YMMV!

genRaiy21:11:53

Just checked with a contact at Heroku and yes the account is usually paid up front

genRaiy21:11:33

I have added that caveat to the post

tcrayford22:11:25

@raymcdermott: @danielcompton that seems accurate with what I know simple_smile
