Has slack stopped showing deletion tombstones when a message is deleted?
This message was deleted.
If you delete a single message, there will be no tombstone. Can you try delete this message of yours that started this thread?
So this is how I see it.
wild, then how did the other thread disappear completely
yeah, I see the tombstone here
I guess either it was removed by the API, somehow, or one of the admins has purged the thread for some reason. Or maybe some weird bug/feature in Slack. 🤷♂️
I removed the rest of that thread because the follow-up questions made no sense after the OP deleted the original post (which was very annoying -- do you happen to remember who the OP was?)
seems like removing the rest of thread just makes it worse
I don't recall who asked
How does it make it worse? The responses in the thread made no sense at all without the original question.
If they'd included code examples or explanations, I'd have left it -- but they were just questions about some no-longer existing and now unknown question...
it is a thing that happend in this slack, I know it happened, and it is very confusing to have it just disappear
does the admin team of the slack have a set of guidelines that they use to determine when things can be excised?
No specific guidelines. Just random housekeeping. We often clean up threads after spammers' posts have been removed, and sometimes in other cases if there seems no value left without the OP's post. We could potentially remove the ability of folks to delete posts (but still let them edit them). Would that help?
it would help with the issue of people asking questions then deleting the ask for sure
Which channel was that? Any chance you can still find the thread on https://clojurians-log.clojureverse.org/?
