overtone 2025-01-08

Im trying to figure out how to receive osc messages in overtone, but its a little bit unclear. theres the 'recv' function but im not sure if thats the right function or how to use it. also theres as separate clojure-osc library, is that still relevant?

Do you want to receive only one or a handler for when you receive messages?

well a handler would be nice

Yeah I think osc-handle actually may be better anyway I don't have experience but I'd try this route.

(defn osc-handle
"Add a handle fn (a method in OSC parlance) to the specified OSC path
(container). This handle will be called when an incoming OSC message matches
the supplied path. This may either be a direct match, or a pattern match if
the incoming OSC message uses wild card chars in its path.

As im toying with midi knobs, and osc, it turns out I want something like a MVC framework for controllers. That is, you can twist a midi knob, or an osc fader, and they affect an clojure atom, which in turn affects a cutof frequency of an overtone instr. Rather than building this from scratch, is there something like this available already?

of course its not all that hard, but at the same time, id like to avoid doing it if its a duplication of effort

That sounds slick - haven't seen anything like it. Basically like ClojureScript Reagent so maybe could look into how that's done

alright thats an idea

i did something using atoms and add-watch, its good enough atm

i have a simple hello world osc prototype now with openstagecontrol controlling an overtone instance of mooger with the cutoff frequency

this is kinda what I've been tinkering on with plasticine

hey thats cool!

my code is very simple, ill upload it for critique eventually

in my case i dont bother about an ui, that is done with the osc frontend, openstagecontrol

im sure theres something in plasticine i can reuse

its not very impressive atm, but its fun to play with

theres a little test track with a mooger, that you can control with an osc frontend

and there is an openstagecontrol osc frontend definition there as well
