usb midi is so flaky on my machine so im thinking of somehow converting my little midi keyboard to a device that sends network osc messages instead. Do any of you know of a project that does this? maybe running on a rpi or something?
altight, tnx!
Sending osc from a traditional midi keyboard seems complicated. But if you own a tablet and don’t mind that, then TouchOSC even has a keyboard layout as an example.
Some webapps like this: https://sevish.com/scaleworkshop/?n=12%20equal%20divisions%20of%202%2F1&l=1Bc_2Bc_3Bc_4Bc_5Bc_6Bc_7Bc_8Bc_9Bc_aBc_bBc_cBc&version=2.5.7 Can send midi as well and be played with the computer keyboard, so webmidi may work for you.
Reaper also has a virtual midi keyboard
I have toyed with https://hexler.net/touchosc/manual/getting-started-midi in the past very briefly, it may work for you o/
tnx
can you attach a traditional midi kbd to it? is it open source?
Not sure if it's OSS, but there are some alternatives like https://openstagecontrol.ammd.net/docs/user-interface/client/ (I've never used this one). And, thinking better, this may not be exactly what you are looking for as it's not hardware, it's just software, so not sure if it would work as a proxy to your midi keyboard. Guess you will have to connect the keyboard in some place with midi cable anyway (unless you want to use bluetooth, but it may not be so responsive).
What's the issue you are having with MIDI via USB?
well the usb midi randomly just dies, and the only reliable way to get it working again is reboot
on fedora 41
the problem seems to be in the alsa midi stack
ive been trying various ways to reset the alsa stack but so far no luck
of course id prefer that alsa midi just worked, but since its hard i was thinking of doing osc remotely somehow
i did report it to pipewire: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/4398
Got it o/ Hope they can answer it quickly
