This leans more #C0B7Q4XRM1U than #C068E9L5M2Q, but I found it primarily a really nice talk about software development in general so I'm posting here: Kent Beck: Software Engineering in the Age of AI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8fBgDCf2Y4
• AI = genie, points out limitations of current AIs at various points • features vs futures (flexible programs) • software as side effect of learning (hammock-y) • one shot (spec driven) vs iterative • effort is not a good metric (e.g. LoC)
I call it augmented development, because to me it's still a human process.
Not sure where meta-topics are discussed, so posting here. And maybe this is just me, but I feel that the #C03S1KBA2 channel was kind of killed when we created #C068E9L5M2Q and #C0B7Q4XRM1U. It's like we took the most important technological shift coming too and affecting Clojure and the programming world, and said we can only talk about it in some hidden away hard to find channels.
I feel programming languages themselves have become irrelevant honestly.
I wouldn't go that far, but I see what you mean as well. You're likely still better off with something that has safe memory, compiles fast, easy to test, etc. Because all that benefits agents as well. I also find it's good to have a language which you can quickly explore running code with, when you want to assess what an AI did, it's pretty nice if it's easy for you to call and execute things to explore. And if you'll ever need to understand something in the code, it's still nice if it's using a language you like. But for my comment, you can assume I mean the community as well. Even if say the choice of using Clojure is not relevant, but still, it seems we moved conversation that are the most important and trending to hidden channels, so the channel activity of #C03S1KBA2 seems low, and it's hard to find where is everyone actively engaging about proramming/software-development?
Feels like this a symptom of Slack's poor channel discovery / lack of Home or Activity like page
This topic has been discussed to death elsewhere. Read https://clojurians.slack.com/archives/C03RZGPG1/p1780682339639849 which explains why we did this.
Specifically, we have people here who jump on every mention of AI in the main channels and turn a discussion into an argument, in violation of https://www.clojure.org/community/etiquette (please re-read this if you haven't read it recently to refresh your memory of how discussions are meant to be conducted!).
If Slack had a way to move threads to other channels, and to close threads so no more replies can be made, it would make the moderator team's job easier. Zulip has those features, BTW.
And #C0353589RFC is generally where meta discussions belong @didibus
(also #C068E9L5M2Q was created nearly three years ago so it is definitely not responsible for any perceived quietening of #C03S1KBA2)
