What exactly is Hey anyways?

An email service

Yeah, https://hey.com/ is a very, very different email service.

Ruby indeed uses too much CPU, but not "insane" - Rails, on the other hand, is very heavy. I had the opportunity to make 3 different "pure-Ruby" implementations of moderately complex systems. The CPU wasn't an issue (and these were OLD versions of Ruby, that were about 40x slower than we have today) - never I though "this could be faster" The issue mostly is that DHH is very bad on design principles. He said that a database is just a glorified key-value storage; he is against foreign keys and other constraints in databases; he doesn't care about optimized SQL (Rails will cache anyway is his point), etc etc...

Wow, what a gloriously simple world to live in where database == map, but on disk.

Oh, interesting. Seems nice and like it has a lot of good ideas. It's true, people got lazy with email haha.

By coincidence I’ve ended up in Charlotte this week working by the convention center. Curious if the meet and mix this evening is conj-participants-only?

Ask in #C0C4WV96U perhaps?

I know that it is open to attendees who don't have their badges yet (since registration is morning-only and lots of folks arrived during the day).

Thanks. Not sure why the channel didn't show up when I searched on mobile.

Was nice meeting you in real life, although briefly :)

Likewise. Glad I got a chance to say hello.
