This reminds me of Simon Willison’s stuff on https://simonwillison.net/2021/Mar/5/git-scraping/. They end up pushing a commit from the action, so I don’t think it ever stops. (https://github.com/simonw/ca-fires-history/commits/main/)
I also found a commit bot which makes a nice shape in your activity overview, those green boxes
like ascii art
something like this, but it wasn't this specific one: https://github.com/gelstudios/gitfiti
Purely vapourware but the other day I discovered you can run GitHub actions on a regular interval and was thinking you could generate GH hosted static sites using nbb in an action that updates e.g. every hour or every day. For sites that need fresh content but no backend.
@chris358 I do that here: https://github.com/xadecimal/subscription-game-ratings but I just use plain Clojure and babashka. Oh I also use scittle to make the webpage interactive.
This is the resulting GitHub pages hosted static site: https://xadecimal.com/subscription-game-ratings/ and it'll automatically regenerate each week using GitHub cron actions.
That's really cool!
Only downside is on the free tier, they disable actions if you didn't commit for 60 days. So every 60 days I have to manually re-enable them.
Ah ok I didn't know that.
I saw some people they have an action that makes a useless commit every 50 days or something just so that it doesn't get disabled haha. But it's not too annoying to just click the re-enable button once in a while.
even when you use cron actions?
apparently
