Is anyone working or employed as an "AI Engineer" and if so, what is that?

I currently work as data eng and my job is SQL-heavy. I talked to the other manager from the team who has this AI-engineer and I tick all boxes for it but they already hired another guy (wow, what a coincidence). I think it has more conventional coding than SQL coding. I'd prefer AI-engineer to data engineer. From what I understand they'll use ChatGPT-like APIs to do things instead of moving data from a to b -- they're a consumer of data engineer stuff. From what I understand AI-engineer is basically a developer who just calls APIs and does neither real machine learning nor statistical modelling.

thank you @invertisment_clojuria also 😄 lol yeah what a coinkidink

debugging and profiling inference frameworks like https://github.com/huggingface/text-generation-inference is what I counted as "ai engineer", too

I have 3 levels in mind: • research / training • low level engineering • api / prompt building etc
