For frequent markdown-mode users: does anyone have a way to emulate the effect of having markdown-hide-markup on all lines but the current one? Editing around paired characters (like a backquoted word) is pretty painful, and toggling buffer-wide is jarring enough where i tend to just avoid doing it.

I don't have a way but I would be interested.

if you don't do it often, you could use an indirect buffer to edit the line in a different mode? https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Indirect-Buffers.html

It's a bit less easy to use than what you're suggesting, but I've used them for things like js embedded in an html template and the like, to fix indentation, for example.

mmm, my main usecase is when trying to use #C093426FPUG, the buffer is prettified by default (and LLMs seem to very much like their markup, so hiding it creates quite some visual clutter), but maybe your idea of just writing it in a separate buffer and then copying/sending it over is the path of least resistance

I don't have a way to do that in emacs, but if you don't mind using both, Obsidian even takes it a step further by hiding markup until your cursor is on the element. The latest version can serve as a general editor and markdown files don't have to be in a "vault"

Yeaaa, Logseq does the same (which is why I was hoping there might be some prior art)- the only SO post I saw talking about it had mentions that it could be unduly expensive, I suppose 'tis not meant to be :^)

Strictly for eca and the separate buffer, there is eca-compose. It's exactly a separate buffer from which to send your msg to the agent. In the transient menu it is in i
