So joining strings apparently discards spaces, wtf? 😄
Interesting, it works the same way in clojure ...
I changed my locale for Java a few hours ago because of bad serialization, so that might be the issue? But anyways, that just doesn't make any sense...
Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
Hold on. Why is Cursive broken here?
I don't see anything out of the ordinary. What do you mean by "broken"?
What space are you talking about? Seems to maintain them no?
No - the spaces that should follow \n are not there.
FWIW works perfectly fine for me. Even with that -D.
@suran.orgpad Have you tried the same in a clean REPL? I have no idea why spaces could be removed, but maybe it's an issue with something other than the code itself.
Ah, it's the issue with Cursive's REPL.
@cfleming Do you have any clue why that might be happening?
Check Settings | Languages & Frameworks | Clojure | REPL | Split and align multi-line strings. If that's enabled, disable it and see if that helps.
Yes, that did help. Kinda counterintuitive in this case, I'd say, given that the string is not actually displayed as multi-line.
Thanks, it helped. I wonder why the default value is set the other way...
By the way, is there a way to show full stacktraces? There was a change some time ago and I'd like to still be able to see full stacktraces.
In REPLs, it's usually done by evaluating *e.
I mean in general, even (.printStacktrace *e) shows only a part of the trace (about 2 calls) and hides internal calls - but I do want to see those internal calls.
Ah, you mean this part? You can click on it. Or do you mean that you never want to click on it and instead would like to always see every element?
Yes, I would like to see everything, always.
It doesn't seem like there's an item for it in the Settings dialog. But you can right-click it, click "Fold Lines Like This", then remove everything from that list. I think it will work. I don't actually want to test it. :D
Oh, that was suble, the spaces after \n. Ya, glad it was a cursive issue, definitely not how str or join work 😛 .
There are some settings in Settings | Languages & Frameworks | Clojure, in particular Prettify stack trace elements using folding. However, these days it's complicated, and that only works in the REPL, not in other consoles (e.g. run toolwindow, or test case runs). I have bugs open with JetBrains about this.
