Morning!
morning
morning π
I completed all interview processes (3x) in the last few weeks, unfortunately rejected for all, fairly early on. I was never presumptuous enough to think I'd get an offer, but I did think I'd at least get to complete the process, given I'd applied for roles where I had a good match (worked in the industry before, deep competency in their tech stack, values align). Bit of a reality check. One of the companies offered me 15 mins to give some feedback today so I'm looking forward to that. Thankfully I am in work, it's just not enjoyable.
feel for you, interviewing is hard
yeah, for me it's very much a memory-game, I typically have good answers but can I recall them on the spot and then articulate myself well enough. My short term memory is poorer than most so I end up having to ask the interviewer to repeat the question mid-answer. It's something I need to work on, maybe write the questions down as they are asked. Just got to keep on keeping on.
had a call with one of the internal recruiter and got some good feedback, they didn't think I was in to people management enough (versus technical side), but are going to keep me in mind for a future tech lead role. So that's something π
If an interview requires short-term memory for canned answers, it's a bad interview. But then, our industry is infamous for terrible interview technique π
Mornin' All!
Mornin'! TGIF! Plans for the weekend?
Nothing exciting planned here. If the weather cooperates I'll go out for a cycle ride on Sunday morning, otherwise just a lazy weekend.
Sunday looks to be wet for us all day here, so I really need to finish mowing everything down today or tomorrow. I've kept missing "dry spell" opportunities in between rainy days, so it's gotten long enough I need multiple passes with different blade heights π
I've missed a couple of days walking, since I got back from Conj (too tired Monday after Conj, walked Tuesday, got flu + COVID shots so I was not up for it on Wednesday, Thursday was the first mowing day and that got me 6,000 steps so no need to walk! π ).
I did my mowing last weekend, but there is always more gardening to do. My problem is that if the weather is nice I'd rather go cycling, and if the weather is not nice it's no good for gardening either.
We're currently in that sweet spot between "it's too hot to be in garden working" and "it's too cold to be in the garden working", so I think a lot of our dry days are going to be dedicated to clearing weeds and tidying up the borders before everything freezes for the winter π
if the weather is not too miserable I'd like to meet my mother to walk our dogs somewhere nice, nothing much more as I feel super drained at the moment. So glad it's Friday π
I'm on a scuba assistant instructor course tomorrow, then Sunday is a blissful nowt - could do with a nice rest.
I was on a wedding of my childhood friend as a best man. Now heading back to the airport.
how was it, did you have to give a speech?
Yes, in Czech and English. It was great thanks to knowing mnemonic techniques. So I managed to βhangβ parts of my speech on parts of my body and remember it all.
It was awesome. Unfortunately, likely the last wedding in my generation and my social circle. All future ones will be the next generation. π
