morning, another interview this morning 🀞 πŸ˜„

Good luck!!!

Good luck! and be yourself ❀️

Mornin' All!

Morning! Slowly recovering from Conj. That long drive back on Saturday left me so sore on Sunday (neck, shoulder). And, of course, my brain is full of new ideas, as always!

Sounds both bad and exciting!

If you were to sum up (SI - Sean Intelligence) what the feeling is on Clojure development, direction and growth(?), what would you say?

looking forward to seeing some of the talks videos appearing on YouTube (or whatever else) clojure-spin

They'll all be on ClojureTV on YT, "probably" starting in a couple of weeks (according to Alex).

Re: growth -- no idea, that's somewhat above my pay grade (more Christoph's bailiwick perhaps).

Re: direction -- I think Rich continues to drive things in the same way he always has, with a clear (to him, at least) vision of how data-centric, iterative programming should work πŸ™‚

I think the new-in-1.13 destructuring stuff will be a game changer, in the same way Spec has been for some people, and transducers have been for othersβ€”but it will take time for the effects to be seen.

One thing that was pretty clearly on display at Conj was the overall split between the "hand craft everything" folks and the "automate a lot of stuff with AI" folks. I'm not sure what to make of that, yet.

that we're still figuring out this stuff πŸ˜„

I'll just suggest that everyone watch Rich's and Stu's talks when they come out.

(and that's not different out of Clojure land)

Heh, Kent Beck says we're all in the "We Know Nothing" stage...

I second that βœ…

I'm very excited about the new destructuring stuff coming along.

My thoughts were "They are investing more time in data structure work, since that is a strength of clojure"

making it easier for devs

(and more robust)

Do you think that is a trend that is going to grow re: data structures in clojure?

(I was thinking, they may also devote more time to bringing in Java 21+ type goodness, i.e., improving threading and perhaps even looking at record types and the work around value classes, to make clojure leaner and faster)

(not clojure per se, but how it uses the JVM)

Clojure 1.13 targets JDK 17, so future JDKs will be way off in the future. Kind of crazy that we're only just now dropping JDK 8 (and JDK 11), but we'll probably benefit from improvements in the JDKs anyway (compact object headers is great, for example).

Rich is still laser-focused on data and "information systems" so, yes, I expect that area will continue to get the most love.

@dharrigan Are you joining the Clojure dev call tomorrow?

Ah, I should be. Let me add it to my calendar. Thanks for the reminder! πŸ™‚
