good moaning ๐Ÿ‘‹

Morning All

Mornin'! Trying to start a habit of going for a 30-minute brisk walk around the neighborhood every morning. 1.7 miles yesterday. 2 miles today. My A1C / glucose numbers are terrible and my liver has 32% fatty infiltration (considered "severe fatty liver") plus mild fibrosis, so my doc wants a lot more exercise, and he's trying me on Metformin (with a goal to switch to Mounjaro at some point, since that helps with fatty liver and fibrosis as well as A1C / glucose).

'course, tomorrow I'll be sat in the car for 8+ hours driving down to Conj, but at least I'll walk to/from the convention center in the evening for the mixer so I can try to get 30+ minutes in then.

great start, "habit" is definitely the key and it helps if you can find something you enjoy. I like quite like the concept of "exercise snacks", randomly scattered throughout the day, something short to raise the heart rate, e.g. some star jumps, squats, at your desk or during a break. They take little time/effort but have an accumulate with consistency. Good luck!

We have a home gym in the basement that, shamefully, we haven't used since we moved in 18 months ago. I do plan to add that once I have my baseline health back up a bit. And we have a continuous poolโ€”a 15' long by 5' deep swim spa with jetsโ€”and I was swimming in that every morning for a couple of months at the end of last year, but my routine kinda disintegrated and I'm miserable at work, so I've let myself go ๐Ÿ˜ž

yeah, it can be really hard when you don't have the motivation. I go to the gym twice a week with a buddy, having someone else to go with really helps as you don't want to let them down too, so whenever I'm feeling lazy I still go. Plus there is a little bit of friendly competition and support.

Our cats are not quite so helpful with exercise ๐Ÿ™‚

No, I've heard cats are less keen on long walks

My wife, Jay, goes to the gym five days a week: spin class three days, weights two days. She still uses her personal trainer from California, via FaceTime. And she's persuaded two of her friends here to go to spin class as well. She really likes to roll out of bed and go exercise. I take about half an hour to even wake up and I'm normally a zombie until I've had a mug of coffee โ˜• ๐ŸงŸโ€โ™‚๏ธ

That's impressive (Jay's gym habit, not your coffee one ๐Ÿ™‚ )

likewise we have a dog, having to walk is definitely a good side-effect - especially at this time of year, I've been on some beautiful walks, luckily a short drive and we are in country side.

Yeah, we're pretty close to a lot of farmland but it's not public access like the UK: it's all private and you're likely to get shot for trespassing ๐Ÿ™‚ That said, we have a couple of beautiful hiking/walking trails fairly close by, and a couple of big parks. But my neighborhood is very quiet and flat and a lot of folks walk or run around it (since we actually have sidewalks everywhere in the neighborhoodโ€”that all stop at the main road, so it's hard/dangerous to actually walk into town!).

I find needing to sign up and show up is a good way to get the habbit going. If it's all "I can go whenever I want to" it tends to not happen as you can always do it in a little bit.. I've found a local place I can get to in 10min that is a mix of weights, cross fit, military fitness, etc. 45min sessions. I stand up at 12:00, race to get changed and drive there for 12:15, do the 45min, get back home 13:10-13:20 having picked up something to eat on the way, take the dog out briefly and then back to work- eating outside most of the summer. By signing up to 3 days of that ahead of time, and having them chase me if I don't show or cancel last minute - that's a good way to form a habbit for me. https://brigadefitness.co.uk/

I can fully relate to your situation and the difficulty in getting that habit installed... When I was out of work last year it was a LOT easier, but I am just about managing to stick to 3-4 workout walks a week and I am keeping the initial weight loss off, but I need to step things up and lose some more to keep my Diabetes Nurse happy. Feel free to hit me up directly if you want any insights into exercise and / or diet re controlling HBA1C - I am happy to share, but do not want to give unsolicited advice. In the meantime *solidarity *
