Mornin'... Happy Saturday! My cousin (in Devon) saw the news about 50C in California and asked how we are doing... That 50C is in Death Valley, hundreds of miles away and much further inland. We're "near" the coast where it's only 30C (for several days) and 30C is plenty hot enough... and we'll be outside all afternoon in the hot sun for the local Pride festival at the nearby high school (this will be our small town's 13th annual Pride festival -- it had to skip a few years due to the pandemic). Lots of drag queens today, and a couple of "story hours"... just hoping the Proud Boys et al stay away 😕

I'm thankful of the conversion to celsius for us over here 🙂 I can never remember the rough good-enough formula to convert F to C and I've saved a ddg search 🙂

It's got a lot cooler here in the UK recently

We had a crazy cold snap a few weeks ago -- the UK was warmer than the Bay Area! -- but then it went back to "normal" for us, and now the whole the Western US is under an extreme heat watch/warning... I have friends in Las Vegas and Phoenix dealing with 45-46C every day right now ☀️

Yeah, I've been following that on the news and all the reports - affecting homeless people, old people and pets (I learnt that dogs can suffer from heat stroke and die very very quickly)

The first time I visited Phoenix was late November 1999 (for Thanksgiving, with Jay's family) and it was still in the low-to-mid-30s C during the day... A friend moved to Phoenix one summer and didn't see any of his neighbors until winter when it finally cooled down enough that kids could start playing outdoors, instead of hiding in the air-conditioned houses or taking brief dips in their swimming pools (nearly every house I've visited in Phoenix has a pool!).

scary, not something I would endure tbh - my fragile norn'iron body won't handle it!

Yeah, I know even when it gets into the 20s, folks in the UK are pretty miserable 🙂
