Good morning lovely people!
Good morning
good morning
I just had a brain fart... I host a website and when I look at the logs I see them looking for all kinds of files (data.sql, db_dump.sql, etc) and these are script kiddies looking for ways to get in of course.... But why not serve them lots of rubbish, would that stop them from looking? or just annoy them? Or would they even notice?
So instead of giving a 404 serve them /dev/random output for a while.
(I got plenty of bandwidth to play with)
I would just ignore those requests. That's been a thing ever since I started hosting my own PHP blog 20+ years ago. The new thing is the crazy amount of crawlers soaking up HTML content to use for LLM training. You will need to deal with those now as they can otherwise take up your entire bandwidth in spikes.
Or serve with timeout to annoy them
I mean delay
yeah, that would work as well, just tying up resources on their end.
