This might come off as incredibly harsh and contentious but have you considered embellishing when communing with the lesser eldritch life forms known as recruiters?

Until you can talk to an actual hiring manager, this is just an annoying dance you have to go through

that might be needed.

though in the lats case the recruiter had submitted several CV's to the company and didn't get any interviews for his candidates 😞

Could be a bad recruiter

I applied through a recruiter once to a Clojure role with six years of experience in writing backed services in Clojure. Got rejected because "they're looking for a Clojure programmer" What the fuck am I then?

that is very bad indeed. TBH, if I were to look for Clojure programmers I'd be looking here on the slack.

Yes. It's even worse in France when you've strayed from the beaten path and/or spent time renovating a farm. I also find France to be very "boring" in terms of tech. All of this are generalities of course, but I do feel them.

I read about some silly example where a lead dev was wondering why nobody was applying for a dev job in his team, which had been posted for a long time. He asked the people managing the hiring process, and repeatedly was told that there were no applicants. He attempted going through the hiring process himself, and learnt that due to some silly filtering, he himself could not get the job - because they were looking for "Clojure Software Developers" and not "Clojure Developers" (which the applicants were categorised as) or something to that effect. (It wasn't Clojure, but you get the point)

What I also find very confusing/weird/amusing is when they say 'we are a very innovative, modern company and we are using the latest tech' and then are looking for Sping Boot/Hibernate/Postgres developers and AWS.

Well, maybe they're cutting edge about how they use Hibernate or whatever 😛

This is why I have always said that networking and referrals are the best way to get jobs, since you can often route around the stupidity that is recruiters and HR 😞

Thought: If you need experts for a certain technology, it can't be very good one as it isn't simple nor easy.

Is it the recruiters or the hiring company that sets up the gate? I wonder if you really want to work with people who have such strange rules.

It seems to be both.
