I tried Shazam for some other classical music once and it seemed to think that I was looking for pop music. Do you know a good one for classical?

That's not Vivaldi, it's Turlough O'Carolan (Irish baroque). Specifically, Carolan's Concerto. Legend has it that he composed it in response to a visiting Italian violinist playing him a vivaldi composition....

There's an app called 'tunepal' that's not bad at identifying Irish tunes and linking you to sheet music transcriptions on http://thesession.org or wherever. I'd always advise learning that repertoire by ear from a good recording though -- may take longer, but you'll learn/internalise more (idiomatic phrasing and ornamentation)

'O'Carolan's Armpit' would make a good name for a tune -- I'll leave that one with you

I am essentially doing that, here - learning by ear - the reason I'm transcribing is that I want a digital instrument that I can control and play along to, mostly for stabilising my rhythm. And also, transcribing helps me remember the tune (even just the act of it, not just reading the sheet music).

Pardon the Vivaldi deroute, @borkdude! I've been listening to a lot of non-O'Carolan baroque recently and felt sure it must have been some of that.
