On my way to Berlin. How do I remind myself to not forget my suitcase in the suitcase department when I get out of the train...

I'll put an agenda reminder around the time I arrive. This almost happened to me once when I went to EuroClojure Krakow. When I stepped out of the train in Schiphol I almost forgot my luggage facepalm

An alarm with a text "Pick up your suitcase" 10 minutes before arrival.

I wouldn't know anything about that πŸ˜‰

Write a bb script ...

@borkdude put in the luggage something you will notice immediately that you don't have when you stand up to disembark the train, like a shoe πŸ˜†

that's a good one helios!

Cut to @borkdude standing in some Berlin u-bahn station with just one shoe wondering if there was something he missed

Ah Apple has a thing called "Reminders" which is synced through ICloud so I should see it on both my phone and laptop... made a test reminder to test it out to see if it actually works

Could just pass as @borkdude?

πŸ˜† 4

I sometimes make geofenced reminders. Works pretty well

@lennart.buit in Apple Reminders? that's pretty clever

Yeah, you can attach a location and then you get a notification once you reach that location

🀯 1

it apparently also does: β€œwhen you leave your car”, although that is less applicable for you today

how does it know that you're in a car anyway?

connected via carplay I think

Find a phone app that triggers an alarm when a bluetooth device goes out of range.

Some people talk so loud even my noise cancellation headphones don't help :-s

hope they will get tired soon

You need to put the noise cancelling headphones over the people making the noise

(Pls don't do this for real)

oh I see! that's how you cancel noise

/slaps people with his noise cancelling headhones

We could keep on talking about your suitcase until you arrive, that might(?) help.

You can also throw the suitcase out of the window already so that you don’t have to worry about losing it. You already lost it after all!

or just rely on the good grace of your fellow humans to hand it in and collect it a week later. What's the problem?

another 35 minutes

Perhaps a little chant might help?: I won't lose my train of thought, Or forget the suitcase brought.

🧘 1

I chant forget my suitcase

πŸ˜† 1

It reminds me of the line that Dutch train conductors say through the audio system: "While leaving the train, think about your luggage" I can perfectly think about my luggage while leaving the train and it still being up there in the luggage rack

Follow up question: Did you remember your suitcase?

Yes it's still with me in the underground now

I did not make reminders for the underground though

🀞 1

I now left my luggage. Safely at the hotel!

πŸŽ‰ 2

so what ended up being the winning method for remembering?

Apple Reminders closely after you folks

Alright; thank you for your data point. Please stay tuned for the report on how to not forget your suitcase in the train once we have a reliable dataset.

Feels like the performance related discussion around 1.13.alpha-2 would have been less painful if we had

avoiding the overhead of find

is it related to the new required keys stuff?
