Good morning!

Good sock morning

Quantum socks: when you know the location of one sock the other one is unknowable

๐Ÿ˜‚ 3

Or something like; one sock knows if the other is up or down, until you ask it, then it doesn't know anymore.

->> socks sort (partition 2) (map assoc)

There are edge cases though

Could get a talk out of it lol

I think (group-by identity) is appropriate here

determining sameness is tricky when socks that aren't the same should be paired ... eg the coloured stripy ones at the bottom of the photo

Oh, yeah. Well, generic solutions are out the window, then

plugging in sock-identity keeps the majority of the code though

next ... how to handle odd socks?

Odd how? "Pairs" of 1 sock, with 1 missing?

yes ... maybe you have socks?

maybe not

well, I'd have thought that group-by at least gathered "like" socks, and then you partition the groups - and make do with what partitions you end up with ๐Ÿ™‚

haha I meant that you have probably dealt with laundered socks but also haha

or maybe we need to zoom out and apply a contract on the behaviour of our socks in the laundry ๐Ÿ˜‚

Or even further, and define some formal proof ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

monadic sock pairs

๐Ÿ˜‚ 1

I had a sudden urge to match that with a "good jocks morning"... but it passed

You need to apply the Middle Out algorithm!

What a great show that was, imo

Is it a sock or a sosh?

I've used both, got no weird looks or anything

one on each foot

I randomly bumped into this Monad short and thought of you guys https://youtube.com/shorts/q2OylBG8OPI?is=Ed-KkQ0m7D93B12Z

I'm changing my music taste. I've been playing the tin whistle here at my home office just because it's such an accessible instrument; small, light, simple, always as in tune as it gets so no fiddling around with a tuner or anything, just pick it up and play some stuff while people at the office building are migrating from the coffee machine to the meeting room and eventually showing up in the Teams meeting. I've had no particular predisposition towards Irish music, it just comes with the territory of the instrument. You can play other stuff, of course, and I do, but it makes sense to learn some traditional tunes. And now I'm starting to actively listen to the Irish music recordings, picking them over other work music ๐Ÿ™‚

The Bothy Band and their album 1975 is something i've had on fair bit recently. it's got a lovely version of The Butterfly on it too @reefersleep

any irish recommendations? I've found my music taste drift to calmer, less crowded tunes.

Right now, I'm really enjoying this album by a guy called Craig Duncan, with a mix of tunes. But I have more specific recommendations for single renditions of particular stuff, hang on. Craig Duncan - Irish Dance https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mzldCTRGwIBM_gFQl6B-SiQU0JOKgKndg

I love this rendition of "Sรญ Bheag Sรญ Mhรณr" by a trio of Danish guys. I strive to play it like Rune on the Low D tin whistle ๐Ÿ™‚ The Good Tune - Sรญ Bheag Sรญ Mhรณr https://youtu.be/J5Jl5lFTgfg?si=7Q2gWHiJZ0cCr2Gq

This performance of O'Carolan's Draught by a duo of Cittern players is absolutely gorgeous. I want to play along with it, but I need a Bb whistle. The citterns have a really particular sound that I quite dig, I guess it might be an acquired taste to others. Cittern Duo - O'Carolan's Draught https://youtu.be/8CfWikeHqOQ?si=pHY-XkfR_jgbN-ky

More candid, here's Russian Tatyana playing tin whistle along to that same cittern duo playing a tune called Garryowen. It's one of the first tunes that I tried playing (and failed miserably ๐Ÿ˜„ ) Dragonfly - Garryowen https://youtu.be/pz2jE23F2Kk?si=F-FTeQgNLToDRtVR

I'll find more if you feel like it ๐Ÿ™‚

Depending on your mood Mary Black.

Thank you! I've got plenty for now ๐Ÿ˜„ I started on the Craig Duncan, I like what I've heard!

First time I saw Mary Black in York in 1992 she had all the musicians who were the session folk who played on The Commitments soundtrack.

Thanks @jasonbell, haven't heard those!

Morning friends
