Good woody morning

Our snow is somehow turning into fog.

That was Sunday … it's more overcast today. Yours has a greater sci-fi feel πŸ‘πŸΌ

Morning, still no trains in πŸ‡³πŸ‡±

Good morning!

What do you use for ad hoc no-login voice chat? We use Teams at work, but it isn't working for me at the moment.

This just popped into my radar:

I remember using some browser thing ages ago.

You're not wrong πŸ˜„

I used Keet a successfully a few times

thanks, I'll have a go πŸ™‚

I used to use https://whereby.com/, and used to have https://company.whereby.com/teodor or something. It was very smooth. You have to pay something to get that, though.

Jitsi meet is also an option

Thanks all πŸ™‚ I used http://talky.io for a wee bit until normal services resumed.

Keet wanted me to meet random people , I didn't want to pay for whereby. Had forgotten about jitsi, which I think would also have suited my needs

My city Amersfoort in snow, yet another photo (not mine)

❀️ 5

I think you need to go outside and touch snow β˜ƒοΈ

I'm going to walk to the public library, this is on the way there

I did a walk last night, really nice with crunchy snow

I can very well imagine you sitting in the right upper watchtower, conjuring up new Clojure spells πŸ§™

I did go up there a few times, but didn't bring my laptop :)

who needs a laptop for some spells?

In Antwerp, there is the concept of the City Poet, a title that is passed along every year.

We have that too

Cool.

I guess I can be the City Clojurian then, but I'm not the only one :)

I'd vote for you (even I'm not from Amersfoort)

you can be the City Clojurian next year, once your skills are up to scratch πŸ˜†

πŸ€” 1

I guess I'm behind since I don't use Claude Code yet

are they the current City Clojurian?

Ray and I live so close to eachother we're in competition for the village idiot title.

πŸ† 3

also Arne is in your vicinity, but I think I'd vote for Ray

πŸ₯³ 1

I'm publicly out as an idiot so I have a head start on the other nominees

Beautiful photo! What is this bridgy building used for?

but aren't you an immigrant @raymcdermott? So you go there and steal other people's jobs?

@borkdude the wiki doesn't say what it's used for currently

it's mostly a tourist attraction nowadays

aaah wait, Ray isn't a real Belg? he's good at hiding that then :P

I'm not an immigrant, I'm an expat 🎩

I work for a Swiss company so I'm not sure who's job I'm stealing any more think_beret

I wouldn't count on Swiss for protection though, they are "neutral"

πŸ˜‚ 1

Well the flag is a big plus

πŸ₯ 4

dang.... that is the best joke I heard in a loong time

I stole it fair and square

βž• 2

@borkdude You still have to make it on the notable residents list in Wikipedia!

πŸ˜† 1

I should take a pic of the snow here before it disappears

No sign yet of the snow in the NE of England disappearing anytime soon.

Only a light dusting down here by the Tay

The peak district also only has a light covering ...

A persistent dusting here

Gone with the rain now

Good Morning!

Snow in the Basque Country too.

Good morning

So now I am actually considering it a real possibility that the Americans are going to attack us in the next few months. Some seriously crazy stuff is coming out of their mouths, especially the wannabe Goebbels.

JUST saw this news item

"The US is developing a draft agreement with Greenland that could be offered directly to the island's authorities, bypassing Denmark.

The proposal involves a Free Association Agreement β€” where the US provides funding and improvements in living standards, while Greenland hands over all defense matters to Washington, but the island retains internal self-government.

The US already has similar arrangements with Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and Palau.

Trump's strategy has two main goals. The first is to deepen divisions between Greenland and Denmark. The second is to open direct negotiations with the island, bypassing Copenhagen," - The Economist.

I don’t doubt that they are attempting this, I am doubting the possibility of this happening.

Come on, cheeseburgers, do your effin' job.

Explaining anything related to Americans - Imagine a cheeseburger

Not Americans, one person in particular.

You know of whom I speak. A pale ork, astride a white warg.

I don't, actually πŸ˜„

> β€œYou're in America now," I said. "Our idea of diplomacy is showing up with a gun in one hand and a sandwich in the other and asking which you'd prefer.”

Interesting variation on "Plata o Plomo" (Narcos)

Not familiar with Jim butcher.

Writes fun pulp-y Urban Fantasy

Cool. That series hadn't showed up on my radar until now.

That's a fun series to binge

It'll have to wait, started this series: https://www.goodreads.com/series/231285-the-sun-eater

Book Of The New Sun is looking at me from my Kindle

Bookmarking that one. Space opera is my gig.

It's not exactly a space opera, it's set so far in the future distinction between technology and magic is fuzzy

My wife loves Jim Butcher. She's waiting for the new "Harry Dresden" book to drop right now.

And as someone who lives in America, I've no idea what fresh hell I am going to wake up to each day...

a treatise on international relations from the early 19th century should be illuminating. or a Jim Butcher book, ironically, as Harry deals with plenty of Old World creatures

Yesterday I listened to the news and I thought: @simongray is going to win and it's not going to take 18 months :-s

Want to judge our bet?

What does it mean to judge your bet?

A. Determine the winner by timeout or win condition B. Hold the money in trust and distribute it to the winner

Maybe referee would have been a better term I'm not sure

Oh sure, why not

πŸŽ‰ 1

I thought: if you want to become an American citizen now, the easiest way might be to first become a citizen of Greenland. But it turns out that's pretty hard too.

I knew it. Iceland is next! (j/k about Trump mixing up Greenland and Iceland)

He'll rename it to Iceland after acquiring it "That Leif guy, what a rascal. Anyway, it's a silly name so we're fixing it"

It wouldn't surprise me if Trump actually things that Greenland has lush vegetation and forest floors to rake.

He said: it's not much to ask for a piece of ice

ah so he did do his homework

do i want to watch the speech?

or go hide in my imaginary nuclear bunker

I watched a piece of it and he actually cracked me up a few times

What sort of deal was that? Have fun, deae referee, adjudicating this one 😁

An imaginary one, I think

they are not going to attack you, don't believe the FUD

They might very impolitely make you cry Uncle

but there won't be an attack on a fellow NATO member

Occupation then. Same difference.

Denmark won't be occupied and Greenland will hold a referendum or the 08 one will be reinterpreted and it will petition to join the US

but having it independent or a US territory will be sufficient for US needs

This is like a Great Game DLC and surprisingly it's being played correctly by the US, just very unpleasantly

Greenland isn't going to join the US willingly, what are you on about?

Perhaps Want to bet on it?

Sure, how much?

And do we make some sort of contract so you don't cheap out? 😁

50 EUR on Greenland independence + significant US presence Actual annexation by the US seems unlikely to me at this point

I'm willing to send the money in advance to someone of your choosing and they'll dispense it to the winner πŸ˜„

By when? That's kinda significant.

What sounds reasonable to you? 18 months?

There is already US presence on Greenland by the way

πŸ‘ 1

18 months it is

πŸŽ‰ 1

Now we need an impartial judge and trustee
