Any heads-up on when we can expect Conj 2026 talks to be published online?
I think Alex said "a couple of weeks" (to when they'll start to appear).
Thanks! That would be nice! Last year it took quite a while (IMHO), in the sense that I've had people telling me that they wanted to share/send talks to friends, but by the time they appeared, they forgot.
My brain is still at the Conj. I am so happy I can get this energy boost every year! At the conference I did some of my βgot to catchβem allβ Linked-in collecting of Clojurians. I may have missed one or two. Please do not hesitate to connect with https://www.linkedin.com/in/cospaia/. It is my way of keeping LinkedIn sane. And I try to contribute to peopleβs feed with Clojure stuff.
Charlotte is great. Some dude on the street said I walk like an MMA fighter. Another guy told me I'm the king of Charlotte while we were waiting for takeout.
Haha. Totally agree about Charlotte. I left last year missing not only the people at the Conj, but also the people in Charlotte. This year even more so because I made a short detour to New York on my way to the Conj.
I agree that the people in Charlotte and most of the USA that I interacted with were great (except for the lady at the pizza take-out on the airport that told me she could not make a pizza without cheese, she reacted very bluntly).
There are a lot of places in the US with really nice, friendly people... I'm not sure I'd put Charlotte anywhere near the top of that list, but I'd definitely put it above most of the big, well-known cities here π
The guy in the Mellow Mushroom restaurant was fun, right @delaneygillilan
Also I picked up a water bottle in the hotel at the reception, the hotel guy said: yeah, you can have it, just take and enjoy every minute of it. I chuckled a bit
Sure was @borkdude!
Also @delaneygillilan was fun to meet. I look forward to his talk on youtube!
was great in person! y'all are great
unfortunate post to not have a profile photo attached
I think I just look like a regular 30-something burnout with a computer science physique
i was in charlotte a few days early and I got a lot of strangers calling me "cute" - the south is a different country
I hop onto a pull-up bar in between claude prompts but I'm no bodybuilder, haha
I'd be up for another year of Charlotte. My only complaint was that I was unable to find a nice "sit down with a latte and baked good and read your book for an hour" cafe there (I think I tried 5 of them). Does finance just not do cafe culture? :}
ironically I did that in the hotel lobby on Tuesday pretty sterile environment, but they had coffee and nice seats and a quiet atmosphere
Yeah, I think a lot of the coffee shops are either run by a bank or a hotel around the area. So I would expect some level of sterility. To be fair, the nearby "Night Swim" cafe was probably the best actual cofee, and that was I believe in Wells Fargo's building.
I'm ranting, but it just kind of surprised me. In Austin, I see so many people meet for business at coffee shops, from negotiating wedding photography prices to selling businesses. I figured a center of banking and whatever would have lots of great coffee places.
Charlotte is, in my opinion, kindof a disneyland version of an American city. It exists in the way it does because its near a hub airline. Everything in the downtown area we were in was hotel, conference center, concert venue, or restaurant. You go 15 minutes out and its a very different place.
myth, austin only has bbq in gas stations, there are no coffee shops
what about the bagel place next to the hotel? haven't visited but looked like a place to do some work while drinking coffee perhaps
Market at 7th street also had good coffee and could sit with laptop at a table
What a Conj we had this year, eh? And as it usually happens to me - I lose my voice for the next few days from all the loud talking. Why can't we just rent a museum, library or a morgue for a change? Why does it have to be a bar? We're nerds, we just want to talk to one another.
At Strangeloop we had a museum! :)
YES! Alex... we the nerds demand the return of StrangeLoop! We don't care what you call it. "NormalLoop", "StrangeDisunion", whatever
In the survey, I did mention that the Beer Garden was pretty noisy. Better than last year's venue (which was both obnoxiously noisy and, frankly, disgustingly dirty).
MorgueLoop
Last year I remember only being outside (and regretting to not take my jacket)
DeathCoil
Yeah, we'd have some interesting conversations on "containerization", "garbage collection" and "dead code"
"I can see dead code"
what is dead may never die
Nah, that one is for if we're in a big pool party. The god is "drowned" one after all
"What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and... dynamically typed."
Yeah, true, that sucked. I think it's fairly rare to have ID scanned on entry here, and it seems that was a recent policy change due to problems with underage drinkers (or accusations of). And the face scanning too... yikes! Although, they were not scanning everyone, so I don't even know how that was supposed to work.
I always carry my passport when I'm outside of π³π± - you never know :-s
Yeah, I tend to carry my πΊπΈ passport whenever I'm out of the country too. When I lived in the UK and traveled a lot overseas, it amazed me how many places wanted to see your passport (not bars, tho'!).
No way they would have been scanning my face.
Charlotte is a lovely place though I strongly felt living in a bubble. Few blocks down, atmosphere felt changing. Got introduced to some great cuisine by @delaneygillilan , a pizza that could rival Italyβs (did I just dare say that?) @ melloβs and a cheese stale sandwich (?) @ the market (kind of a calorie bomb and a health hazard though, but delicious). I've met nothing but the nicest people in America. Except for that lady at the airport pizza @borkdude π
That was actually New York ;)
I think @rahul080327 mentioned NY being a bit different?
I interacted with maybe 10 people during my short visit to NY. One of them I would describe as nice. Iβm now officially and fully cured from my longing to visit NY.
lol
Can mostly agree with @pez the hectic ness and the financial grind (same name of the coffee shop on our hotel btw) threw me quite off. The food there was the big saviour btw. Maybe spending more time there would grow on me
On the way back I watched Curb your Enthousiasm on the plane. Didn't know they had new seasons. Hilarious.
This thread is wildly off track. Let's get back on topic. I'm the king, fight me.
I was born with crooked legs. When I complained that kids at school making fun of me, my mother said: "if you move fast enough, people think you're cool...."
Dancing people are not the ones that don't want to be in a video. I bet it would be totally fine to share them @magdalena.useglio
Was an amazing Conj, I am already missing you all β₯οΈ Thanks for all the conversations in the hall track, and amazing talks that I saw
I enjoyed your talk too (on the livestream!), @arthurfucher!
it was great to meet you, arthur
Thank you for the exceptional talk.
thanks.. I really appreciate your feedback β€οΈ
It was @nbtheduke all along in the workshop, but I discovered this in the afterparty just on time. On the fourth photo you see Rich Hickey autographing @rahul080327βs hamster hammock (the smallest hammock he could find to take with him to the conj)
haha i'm so glad we finally "met"
it's what i get for having an outdated profile picture
I don't know when you updated it for the last time but I might just have not looked it for a while
i updated it on thursday because i worried people wouldn't recognize me lol
I initially thought, who's the cool looking person with the long hair. Turned out it was you
The babashka workshop was a great way to kick off the conj! Thanks to @nbtheduke for sharing your dev setup. It's always interesting to see how other people write clojure.
Thanks for being there, hope you had a good time during your own native workshop too!
