Some examples from https://www.escapemotions.com/products/rebelle/about . They also do โ€œmetallicโ€ paints, which uses a light model.

that's a really nice effect, the shaders really make the paint pop out

I love it. I paint, generally in natural media because i love the explosive fractal textures of say a watercolor wash or a dry-brush stroke. But Rebelle gives me some of those โ€œooh! aaah!โ€ feels just mark-making in digital. Which for the longest time felt mostly too canned and flat for me when organically sketching.. More simple programs like Procreate are super effective just using brush stroke shape, texture, opacity, and color blending modes. But this stuff takes it to another level. Ps. The paint engine of Rebelle is available headless, and was scripted to help create the painterly animation styles in Spiderman Spiderverse movies, which i thought were quite sublime. Might be neat to use your algorithm, but bolt on this mature paint-stroke/canvas engine..

oh yeah that could be a really fun experiment, mine can also run headless fairly easily, so you could even try chaining them together ๐Ÿ™‚

I think Iโ€™d like to try that. Will have to carve out some time to dig in. Thx for sharing.

would love to see the results if you get around to it

and if you you find you need to change/add anything PRs are very welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

I'll likely do some more tweaking on it as well once I get a bit more time, but it's been really fun to play around with already, I mostly do photography, so seeing my photos rendered in this way was really interesting
