clj-otel 2025-09-16

I need your help! If you are using clj-otel in a production system, please say where it is used and how it is helping you. I would appreciate this information as it would help me professionally. In the 3+ years since the initial release, I believe clj-otel has gained some traction, but so far, I do not know which organisations are using it or what benefit they are deriving from it. Please reply either in a thread here or message me directly in private if you'd like. Thank you! 🙏🏼

We (Manetu) use it in our Clojure microservice based data platform for managing tracing to Jaeger

it is in use at the nytimes on one team. i left about a month ago but i doubt anything has changed.

We're using it at HealthUnlocked (part of Thermofisher), I must admit 'tho, it's presently "turned off" in code, as we're sorting out some infrastructure with AWS.

But the code is there, waiting to be re-enabled once we get some time to look at the infra stuff.

We used it at Elyada in production (with Honeycomb) until the startup's owning company went out of business. I dream of the day I could start using it again, as the OpenTelemetry - Honeycomb combo is the best observability stack I've ever used, and clj-otel was perfect for our needs (and continues evolving nicely). I hate it when I'm forced to use regular CloudWatch or e.g. Datadog instead.

It was used in Hudstats before they switched to Python fully. We were using it for app metrics and traces mainly and stack was otel+grafana+prometheus+jaeger+zen duty/slack. Purpose was debugging, on call and general health of the app

Thank you to all those who replied. It is appreciated gratitude
