We're having some trouble with CIDER's xref backend. lsp can find some references that CIDER cannot, but after doing cider-connect, CIDER takes over and returns "no definitions found", effectively blocking lsp from even trying. Is it possible to make CIDER not take over so completely, so other backends can try when it does not find anything?

Yeah, I can rearrange them this way, but I think lsp has the same problem. Ideally they would both just pass through when they don't find anything, I think that's possibly in xref?

I thought it was supposed to try each backend in order until some returns a result.

Probably our backend is not returning something properly and breaking the chain... I'll investigate.

Ah, turned out that backends in Emacs don't chain. I keep forgetting this as it's so weird...

Really? 😮 Well that's disappointing. I guess we'll have to write a wrapper then
