For what it's worth, Clojure itself is published to Maven Central for that same reason.

I know. afaik Clojure, YAMLScript and YAMLStar are the only Clojure projects published to Central.

I avoided it for a really long time but now it's really easy for me to do.

Also, beware of the new Maven Central rate limits.

I met the sonatype guys at a conference and talked to them about things. It's a bit of a thankless service because they host so much and nobody pays for it. And they have an endless stream of downloading that they have to support.

If Clojars was that big, it'd have the same problems 😄

For sure. It makes sense to charge someone. It's just tough because all the tools just assume it's freely available.

Yes. Tiering the service makes sense. "Would you like us to be your download server instead of running your own? No problem. That will be $X."
