The intent of these rules is -- amongst other things -- that recruiters don't spam people via DM about jobs. We've received complaints about a newly-signed-up recruiter sending DMs to people about jobs, instead of posting in the dedicated channels, so I wanted to open a discussion here: Do people consider recruiter DMs to be "unsolicited direct messages of a commercial nature" and thus subject to instant deactivation, or should we warn such clueless recruiters first, and only deactivate them for repeat offenses?

I’m fine with a warning on first offense. We’re a nice and friendly community, and I think even the most clueless recruiter should be allowed to make a mistake. Once.

I concur, a warning on first offence, then out if repeated. Not all recuiters are bad 🙂

FWIW, the only thing I would not consider spam is when someone writes to me with the intent of getting to me as opposed to getting to "some developer out there that will read that text and maybe click that link". Agree about the first offence though.

I agree with p-himik. I am more than happy to respond to direct messages from a recruiter assuming it's not spam 🙂
