hello fellow spacemacers, is there an equivalent of C-g in spacemacs?

swlabrtyr03:07:00

^ using spacebar

donyorm03:07:53

I always just use C-g

swlabrtyr05:07:07

@donyorm I’m really trying to cut down on the use of my pinky

swlabrtyr05:07:28

idk if I’m getting rsi but after ~2 years of use on a macbook pro keyboard my wrist and pinky feel… strange

swlabrtyr05:07:20

this is why I learned vim/evil and eventually switched to spacemacs

donyorm05:07:14

@swlabrtyr so C-g just runs keyboard-quit behind the scenes. keyboard-quit isn't bound to anything but C-g, but you could easily define a different binding in your .spacemacs.

mccraigmccraig07:07:09

@donyorm you have mapped yr capslock key to ctrl, right? ctrl key positioning on mbp is horrible for emacs otherwise...

donyorm07:07:17

@mccraigmccraig I assume you meant to tag @swlabrtyr, I'm not using a mac 🙂

mccraigmccraig07:07:40

doh, correct @donyorm , that was my pre-coffee comprehension at play

swlabrtyr07:07:37

@mccraigmccraig I do have it to caps lock

swlabrtyr07:07:42

but the strain is still real

swlabrtyr08:07:21

I’ve gone through several iterations, first I just used the ctrl key, then I switched to caps lock, then to vim but missed emacs dearly, then to evil mode, then to spacemacs

swlabrtyr08:07:47

still getting used to spacemacs, but the less I use my left pinky the better my left pinky feels

swlabrtyr08:07:10

it’s not debilitation or even painful, just feels weird

swlabrtyr08:07:31

don’t want it to progress further, it’s gotten worse in recent weeks so I’m trying to avoid all pinky use

ag17:07:14

swlabrtyr: try Kinesis Advantage

ag17:07:41

I've tried many different boards that's the only one that lets me type for 16 hours non-stop

swlabrtyr01:07:48

thanks! I will look into making an investment

practicalli-john08:07:50

@swlabrtyr I haven't tested it, but I thought fd or Esc would do the same as C-g.

swlabrtyr08:07:51

@jr0cket thanks! Esc worked

swlabrtyr08:07:10

has anyone here had any issues with their left pinkies?

malch09:07:08

@swlabrtyr try fd as suggested - works almost everywhere

shan09:07:47

I once read someone used a foot pedal/switch for certain modifiers

swlabrtyr09:07:17

@malch fd doesn’t work for me, but it’s alright

swlabrtyr09:07:35

I’ve just avoided using my left pinky, fixed my posture and type slower

shan09:07:29

Ctrl - [ also works as escape in vim btw

donyorm10:07:35

@swlabrtyr fd does need to defined in .spacemacs IIRC, but it's an incredibly useful shortcut. I would recommend defining.
