Maybe I'm going mad, but I'm having a hard time getting the copy & paste to work, could anyone help me out please?

bordeltabernacle13:10:44

I'm following the emacs commands for kill and yank, but I just don't seem to be able to get them to work

bordeltabernacle13:10:20

Needless to say I'm not an experienced emacs user...

bordeltabernacle14:10:37

Okay, asking for help seems to, er.. help, I can now get it to work by looking up the commands in helm ( <SPC> <:> ) but I'm still stuck on the right key sequence.

@bordeltabernacle: i tend to use the vim keybindings for copying, which are in effect in "visual mode"... is there a reason you're trying to use the emacs keys specifically?

alandipert14:10:17

e.g. "Shift-v y" to copy/"yank" a line

bordeltabernacle14:10:35

To be honest, I've been using Github's Atom editor, and I'm used to Ctrl-C Ctrl-V. I've used Vim a bit, but because of the ease of use with Atom I've never before invested the time in properly learning either vim or emacs, and I think I'm getting myself confused with the vim/emacs crossover of spacemacs. I haven't fully got my head around the concepts involved, and I don't want to get put off by having a hard time doing something like copy/paste.

alandipert14:10:49

i see. yeah this case is especially unfortunate, because copy/paste is a case where vim and emacs are both different from the usual copy/paste... in different ways

alandipert14:10:05

that said, i would recommend learning the vim way first

alandipert14:10:09

at least on spacemacs

alandipert14:10:27

as far as i can tell it works in spacemacs exactly like it does in regular vim, so documentation you'd find about it would all be relevant

bordeltabernacle14:10:29

I've just tried your vim keybindings and they work a treat, thankyou

bordeltabernacle14:10:58

ok, that's interesting, I've mostly been looking at emacs docs

bordeltabernacle14:10:16

Thankyou @alandipert that's been a great help

alandipert14:10:57

cool no problem

alandipert14:10:08

also be sure to type 'fd' wherever yuo see vim tutorials talk about hitting Esc

alandipert14:10:24

Esc works sometimes in spacemacs... but fd works always

jeremyraines20:10:34

hey all — does anyone know how to launch the GUI version of spacemacs with emacsclient when running emacs —daemon? It always opens the terminal version for me (OSX)

alandipert20:10:27

@jeremyraines: what arguments are you passing to emacsclient?

jeremyraines20:10:12

i’ve tried none, -c , and -c -a””
