I know this makes me a dirty reposter, but... (Also I'm on the Japanese beta client. could make a difference, so it would be good to get a confirmation from someone on the english client)

I've never seen the notification problem with the stable English version on Mac -- so maybe it is a bug in the Japanese beta client at this point? Definitely cool that they're producing localized versions!
