Hi! Pearl Score is hiring. We’re a remote‑only company working to help the U.S. housing market value home performance. “Home performance” includes energy efficiency, solar, indoor air quality, resilience to floods and fires, and other real‑world concerns that aren’t normally considered during home buying and selling. Getting off of fossil fuels is one of our big motivators. I co‑founded Radiant Labs, which focused on building energy modeling at U.S. scale. We developed what I consider the best energy‑modeling engine out there, and we were able to scale it to remotely model 80 million homes. We were acquired by Pearl last December. We’re continuing our energy‑modeling work and also building new tools and apps to make home performance really matter. https://pearlcertification.com This role is primarily a Clojure position focused on building the company’s API foundation. Some Python work will be needed occasionally, but it won’t be the bulk of the role. Latin America is a good fit, but we would also consider Europe. While we’ve had good experiences with dev shops like Flexiana in the past, we’re looking for an independent, full‑time developer. We want to build a long‑term, cohesive team. I place a high priority on the ability to work well with peers. Position Summary We are porting selected components of an established Django application to a new stack centered on Clojure APIs, Snowflake, Terraform‑defined infrastructure, and Dockerized services. You’ll work on a small team that first migrates functionality from Django, then builds new features on the new stack. We expect engineers to use AI tools day to day and to exercise strong judgment: clarify ambiguous specs, ask the right questions, and deliver exceptional pull requests, whether hand or AI coded. Responsibilities Essential functions: • Migrate agreed‑upon Django endpoints to a consolidated set of Clojure APIs while preserving API contracts. • Build new backend features on the Clojure and Snowflake stack after migration milestones are completed. • Occasionally contribute to smaller Python applications that remain part of the platform. • Write, review, and improve pull requests, enforcing correctness, clarity, security, and performance. • Help clarify, specify, and write acceptance criteria for tickets. • Mentor less‑experienced Clojure developers through pairing and constructive PR feedback. • Track and evaluate emerging AI tooling and techniques, and share findings with the team. • Communicate well: ask respectful clarifying questions, speak up when a decision feels off, and be kind and helpful. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dCIjp9RqaTzP4t8O05UKlkw8Io4dxdHBu6VGWXE_QIA/edit?tab=t.0 DM me with any questions. Thanks!
Would you be able to provide some information about the salary range/compensation for this position?”
Hi all! I've been working with Jeff since I joined Radiant Labs back in 2022, and now we're working together as part of Pearl Score. I'm incredibly grateful to him for that first opportunity, allowing me to work with Clojure in really interesting problems with big impact in the energy space. It has been really exciting to work with such a talented pool of people in different areas of science. As for this position, over the next few months we'll be working together in a transition from old systems (Django app + others) to new systems with Clojure as the backbone of a data oriented shop. Feel free to reach out to Jeff or me if you have further questions about this position. As a side note, I'll be giving a talk in Clojure Conj about the distributed system we evolved into what it is today, capable of modeling millions of energy consumption simulations within a reasonable budget! Stay tuned!
