I'm looking to hire someone to do parsing work using Instaparse, familiarity with spec is desired, for $20/hr, contact via DM

nilrecurring09:02:45

@luxbock 20$/h is a very very low rate, esp for someone with familiarity with spec.

luxbock09:02:43

@nilrecurring I see, I haven't really hired anyone before, what do you think is a more appropriate rate?

luxbock09:02:09

my co-worker suggested I hire someone to do this in Java because it's so easy to find freelancers, but I figured I'd try here first

mozinator209:02:39

luxbock, which country are you based in ?

luxbock09:02:56

I live in Thailand

mozinator209:02:04

hourly rates depend on technical skills, communication skills and location I live in Germany and have to pay 40%/50% in taxes so 20$ will leave me about 10EUR per hour. Which is just above minimum wage

nilrecurring09:02:56

@luxbock as mozinator just explained very well, rates depend on skills and location. For someone in EU we're talking about 60-200/h depending on the skill level, in US even higher

nilrecurring09:02:53

But I would suggest moving to #jobs-discuss for this

dm309:02:02

that’s western/north EU

sgerguri09:02:17

That figure’s on par in Central Europe as well. And for the record, I really don’t understand why people should be competing on cost - compete on quality instead.

luxbock10:02:21

so I figure I should mention that by "familiarity with spec" I meant that I have already written a spec for the job and I'm just looking for someone to fill in the details, and I have an implementation ready for a very similar parsing task, and I'm now just looking to apply it to some different formats

luxbock10:02:46

so the task is already planned out and very self-contained

luxbock10:02:27

(in case there are any takers despite my low offer, which I would be willing to bump up to $25/hr) 🙂

mozinator210:02:45

luxbock, you only make people angry by offering a low hourly rate

mozinator210:02:55

and your reputation tanks with it. 48 laws of power, number 5 "So Much Depends on Reputation – Guard it with your Life"

I see, I'm sorry if that's the case, definitely wasn't my intention to upset anyone
