I personally use https://obsidian.md/ as note taking and document archiving tools. It's free and no vendor lock-in.

Obsidian is not free if you want it to be effective across your devices you need sync and that costs £ / $ on a monthly basis.

The real issue is always integration. And mostly i find that requires a full programming language.
