Practicalli books are going to shift to some new tooling over the coming days, hopefully without too much interruption. I'll be starting with http://Practical.li/neovim today I've been using GitBook for many many years, long after it was no longer supported and the plugins I use break after node.js version 11. GitBook is therefore a challenge to run locally and it is really very slow on the larger books (a couple of minutes locally and about 10 minutes via GitHub actions workflow
I will also be greatly improved the styling of the book web pages, whilst keeping and enhancing the functionality. There will also be a more obvious light/dark theme toggle and general more friendly to use.
I'll write a blog post about the new tool I am using, mkdocs, including how I set it all up soon, in case anyone is thinking of creating their own tech docs /online books
A sneak peak at the new neovim website at: https://practicalli-john.github.io/neovim-mkdocs/ This is only a test site and the real site will still be at the exiting URL Take a look at the https://practicalli-john.github.io/neovim-mkdocs/writing-tips/ for examples of all the nice things I can now do with the books
Thanks. There are some markup differences, so a few things might not quite be ready and require a tweak in this book, probably many more tweaks in the larger books, but definitely worth the extra work.
The new version of Practically Neovim site is live https://practical.li/neovim/ I'll be working on the Spacemacs site next
