looking at the diff view on some nontrivially nested structures, I'm really wishing that collapsed maps and seqs showed up (probably in yellow?) as a sign of inner changes. I'm having to expand/collapse things looking for edits. like if :query or its collapsed map showed signs of containing edits here

Yeah, I agree, this can be a bit annoying. You can select the root value and use shift+e or shift+space to invoke the expand-inc command to expand children incrementally, but there should be a more obvious way to detect changes when diffing.
