lilypond has its own niche as a sheet music generator

alda can't do that, at least not yet. its intended use is to generate sound

mml generally is limited to a specific sound engine, e.g. the 2a03 sound chip for nes music

alda will eventually support a bunch of sound generators, but right now only general midi is supported

btw, i think if we were ever to implement sheet music generation for alda scores, we would use lilypond to do it
