Oh man, ontology, nice :^)

Early results are very encouraging for my hypothesis

I'll need to think of a way to reach way more people to have a more reliable result

(my hypothesis is that everyone disagrees on what these words mean. It's something I assert in my daily life but would like to prove. So far yeah, nobody agrees and many people who think other people would agree with them give conflicting definitions)

Oh I so confidently hit 'disagree' on those "do you think others would agree" questions- but that's also a matter of culture at least a little bit :^) I'll say the request for "concrete examples" of each is a little tough (or maybe I misunderstood the question); were you hoping for stuff like self-contained code-blocks, links to repos, or something else? It was hard to find a "style-mascot" that wasn't super-deep in a bigger system, or excessively-contrived.

Other people also had the same confusion. This was in many ways a test for me too. If I figure out how to survey a large number (or maybe even just "socially crucial") people I'll be more specific

Have you tried Kaggi as your search engine? It's pretty good in my experience.

Tried it right now for the same search term, not that different to Google as the main culprit in this case is Reddit I guess. (it provides translated versions for indexing?)

Ahh, yes, I believe it's a recent change in Reddit. At least, I've never seen it until a few days ago.

Seems like it's been there for a couple of years, but got rolled out gradually.

I've seen it for a few months at least, but I guess what I was looking for wasn't that important and it didn't enrage me like this time.

It's so so so good. Just like how Google used to be when it first came about (I remember the times!)

Kagi will fail at the above as well, unless you provide an equivalent to -inurl:?tl=

Kagi usually supports the same syntax for filters as google, but apparently it's not the case with inurl. But in any case, as long as I can get it to work in one place, that's good enough. Another thing that I've done for decades that I must now have a snippet for. Oh well.

Hmm, but it does list inurl as a supported operator: https://help.kagi.com/kagi/features/search-operators.html#search-operators-1 Perhaps it doesn't work well with negation or ?. Or maybe it indexes with ?tl=... but then leaves it out when filtering by inurl. After all, when I search for site: test I get English titles in the search results but none of the URLs actually have tl=en or anything like it.

Aside: I wouldn't trust Kagi for translation work; this from their promo on their front page where they have directly translated "close at hand" to Norwegian (which makes no sense) 😄 Will be trying Kagi nevertheless 😊
