Hi all, anyone using MacOS Tahoe? Any problems with it?

good to know before I upgrade

Unfortunately the software part of the MacBook package isn’t getting better, it’s getting worse. I love the hardware (even if the price is high), so even if I wanted to go Linux route, I don’t really see an alternative here.

same here

I wish I had an OS like emacs that just doesn't change once you have configured it the way you like it. I do like the new http://Passwords.app thing in macOS because I was using a different thing before it which was deprecated so it came just in time. I guess you can't have new things without upgrading an entire OS :-s

On a related note, the Intel CPUs have been complete dogshit for more than a decade, I had Core i7 macbook and it couldn’t run for more than 1 minute without throttling due to heat, and there was always fan noise. The fact that they offered Core i9 as an option was criminal on Apple’s part, those configurations were definitely not worth it.

I bought one of the latest i9s... :) My wife still uses it, it's now 6 years old

exactly like you describe it

roklenarcic 2025-12-03T09:47:08.662879Z

Yeah I had “experienced” i5 and then i7 so when they came up with i9 macbooks I was like “lol no”.

I really needed more memory so I bought a 32gb model. A month later they came out with 64gb... darn

I have a 2015 MBP that I still use occasionally. I ran Linux on it years ago, and that was a bit snappier than OSX at the time. The software isn't bloat-free.

borkdude 2025-12-03T13:53:38.654919Z

I also still have a MBP2015 and MBA2015 laying around here

dharrigan 2025-12-02T17:56:10.741759Z

I use it. It's fine, but buggy. Slow on a M1.

dharrigan 2025-12-02T17:56:35.996539Z

Not impressed tbh, I would rather they spend cycles fixing all the bugs than jazzing it up

gonna update to latest sequioa

oyakushev 2025-12-02T18:47:44.812069Z

FWIW, most of the performance bugs on M1 are gone for me now. But it was really bad in the first days.

souenzzo 2025-12-02T18:49:18.627829Z

yes. every "tooltip" element, like the "autocomplete dropdown" while I'm writing in my ide (intellij) now has a fade-in animation and it is REALLY annoying. I'm pretty sure that this is not related to intellij itself, because it was not like this before the update.

borkdude 2025-12-02T19:09:12.664549Z

are there ways to opt out of all of that?

2025-12-04T10:36:12.538549Z

Used it since it came, no problems that make a differnce. 🙂

M4 MBP, FWIW.
