That's a great article! (and by first glance, your book looks awesome). I wish my lecturers would have used an approach like this when I was at uni (late 90s). It would have spared me and my fellow students so much confusion and headache. Good to see that the pedagogy is progressing.
I just got side tracked into reading your book instead of the article π
Nice work @emccue! Iβm laughing at myself for being surprised you were at the JVM Language Summit. I had no idea how deep you were in the Java community. Very cool!
Hey @pesterhazy @raymcdermott @borkdude @jr0cket @wistfulmelodylispfulp @trost.mario Unironically I'm really interested in connecting with more vegan Clojure devs, I'm vegan myself. π So happy you all are in here. Taking the opportunity to learn so much every day βοΈ
Where are you in the world? Whatβs it like to live the vegan life where you are? Iβm thinking supermarkets, restaurants, etc.
Netherlands, pretty easy (easier and easier)
I was asking @kg but Iβm glad you answered too!! Me in Belgium. Supermarkets have good options and there are some vegan restos but many still donβt even have vegan options, especially outside of city centres
I saw practically typing so I thought I'd pitch in too ;)
In the United Kingdom I get vegan and organic ingredients online at https://www.forestwholefoods.co.uk/ I eat a lot of chickpeas and other legumes with a variety of different spices and sauces. I make milk from hemp seeds (I find it nicer and easier to make than soya, almond or oat milk) I don't do restaurants very often, but love the Vegatsu dish by wagamama. Indian restaurants are usually a good place for vegetarians / vegans.
Belgium is sadly bereft of good Indian restos
In Switzerland itβs also getting easier, mainly in cities or tourist centers. Last summer we spent time in the UK, definitely more options there than here, all else equal. Especially the good Indian restos were chef_kiss > I make milk from hemp seeds Do you have a good recipe for this @jr0cket?
We just went to a trip to Switzerland. Unfortunately the vega(n) restaurant in the little town we visited was closed and the other ones did have like boring spaghetti dishes for an absurd amount of money, but luckily the Coop sold plenty of vegan foods. Our easy hack food from the Coop (in Switzerland or Germany) is vegan ravioli ;)
We did visit a pretty good vegan buffet in Freiburg and a place with vegan pizzas in Cologne
(slightly off-topic) What I found interesting about Germany is that you could buy cigarettes on about every corner of the street in vending machines or in the supermarket. Those are banned here in The Netherlands
Also about any coffee place also sells alcohol. I think in Germany they're much more unregulated. In NL you have to have a special permit to sell alcohol so many places that aren't open at night don't have it because it costs more
